A Guide to Yankee Stadium
Often called The Cathedral of Baseball, Yankee Stadium is a Bronx landmark that fuses a century of pinstripe tradition with modern, high-end luxury. It serves as a monumental tribute to the 27-time World Series champions and stands as one of the most iconic and expensive venues in global sports.
Getting to the Ballpark
Yankee Stadium is easily accessible from anywhere in the city. Using public transit is highly recommended due to heavy Bronx traffic and expensive parking.
- Driving & ParkingThe stadium is accessible via the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87). Official parking is operated by City Parking with four main self park garages directly next to the stadium. These garages are 161st Street, Gerard Ave, River Ave, and the Ruppert Plaza Garage on Macombs Dam Park. There are additional lots along the Harlem River and south of Heritage Park.
- Public Transit
- SubwayThe 161 St-Yankee Stadium station is served by the 4 train (East Side/Lexington Avenue line) and the B and D trains (Sixth Avenue line). The subway station is located directly across from Gate 4.
- Metro-NorthThe Yankees–E. 153rd St. Station is on the Hudson line. Special Yankee Clipper trains run on the Harlem and New Haven lines on weeknight and weekend games. Note these trains do not run for day games during the week. It is a roughly 10-minute walk from the stadium and is a popular option for fans coming from Westchester, Connecticut, or Upper Manhattan.
- Long Island Rail RoadTake the train to Grand Central, then ride Metro-North to Yankees-E 153rd Street or the 4 to 161 St-Yankee Stadium
- BusThe Bx1, Bx2, Bx6, Bx13, and BxM4 buses stop at or near the stadium.
- RideshareThe designated pickup/drop-off zone is on Jerome Avenue and Anderson Avenue, though securing a ride after the game can be difficult.

Many of the bars directly outside of the stadium fill up quickly on game day. It’s encouraged to arrive early and budget extra time.

- Gate 6: Located inside the stadium footprint but open to the public, offering a familiar menu and unique Yankees-themed music memorabilia. It also has it’s own gate into the stadium itself.

- A vibrant spot on River Ave known for its strong Puerto Rican influence, lively music, and great atmosphere for fans looking for a local Bronx feel.

Neighborhood Attractions
- The Hip Hop MuseumLocated at the Bronx Point development (opening in Fall 2026), this is the definitive global home for hip-hop culture, located just blocks from where the genre was born.
- A stunning Italian Renaissance mansion once built as a retirement home for former millionaires. Today, it serves as a cultural hub with free art galleries and artist residencies.
- A short walk away on the Grand Concourse, this museum showcases contemporary art and local history.

- A 16-acre park offering scenic trails and historical roots; George Washington used its heights to monitor British troops during the Revolutionary War.
- Formerly Mullaly Park, this 15-acre space features a skate park and soccer fields. It honors the first Black elected official in the Bronx.
- Home to the historic Lorelei Fountain, this park is a great spot to relax before the gates open.
- A massive shopping and dining complex just south of the stadium.
- A public park located on the site of the original Yankee Stadium. You can see the original footprint of the old field. It is also referred to as Elston Gene Howard field after the former Yankees catcher.
Monuments & Unique Features
The current stadium was designed to be a mirror of the 1923 original, blending high-tech amenities with intentional historical replicas. As noted above in the Neighborhood section, the footprint of Old Yankee Stadium is across the street from the new ballpark
- References to Old Yankee StadiumThe exterior of the stadium is made of 11,000 blocks of Indiana limestone, designed to perfectly replicate the look of the 1923 original facade. The YANKEE STADIUM text above the gates is V-cut and leafed in gold, just like the original.

- The FriezeThe iconic white lattice-work (the frieze) that rings the top of the stadium is a zinc-coated steel replica. It is placed atop the roof, which was its original 1923 location. In the renovated stadium (1976–2008), it had been moved to the top of the outfield walls.
- The Subway Cut OutIn the Great Hall and behind the bleachers, the stadium wall is intentionally cut out to provide a clear view of the elevated 4 Train as it passes by. This is a deliberate tribute to the original stadium's design, where the sight of the passing subway was a signature part of the game-day atmosphere.
- Monument ParkCenter Field: A must-see shrine to Yankee legends. It contains retired numbers for 24 different players, plaques, and monuments for greats like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, and Jeter. Note: It closes 45 minutes before first pitch, so arrive early.

- The Standings FlagsOn the very top of the stadium roof, you will see flags for every MLB team; these are arranged daily to reflect the current divisional standings.

One of the biggest criticisms of New Yankee stadium is the abundance of club and premium seating near the field that often remain empty while die hard fans are priced out to further away sections.
