Getting to the Stadium
The stadium sits on Chicago's lakefront, part of the Museum Campus that also includes the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium. The location provides stunning lake views but requires careful gameday planning, as parking and traffic around the Museum Campus can be challenging.
Driving & Parking
- Driving
- From the South via I-90/94 (Dan Ryan Expressway)ake I-90/94 North and transition onto I-55 North toward Lake Shore Drive. Merge onto northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive (US-41 N), then take the 18th Drive exit to reach the stadium grounds.
- From the West via I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway)Drive East past the Jane Byrne Interchange as the expressway transitions directly into Ida B. Wells Drive. Continue straight to Columbus Drive, turn right, and head south until it connects with the Museum Campus entrances.
- From the North via I-90/94 (Kennedy Expressway)Take I-90/94 South toward downtown, exiting at Taylor Street or Roosevelt Road. Head east on Roosevelt Road, turn right onto Columbus Drive, and follow it south to the 18th Drive exit.
- Parking
- Pre-paidMost of the parking lots immediately next to the stadium require pre-purchased parking including the North Garage, Waldron Deck, South Lot, East Museum Lot, Alder Planetarium Lot and the Family Friendly (no alcohol) east of the stadium, just south of the Alder Lot. The majority of these parking passes are sold on a season long basis with limited single game options available.
- Day OfAdditional day of parking in the area is generally further away (as far as 2 miles). Options include the Grant Park and Millennium garages to the north, 31st Street McCormick Place Lot B and McCormick Lakeside Garage Lot C to the south and the 18th Street Lot west of Lake Shore Drive.
- TailgatingTailgating is permitted on all open air surface lots and exclusively on the upper deck of the Waldron Deck. It is prohibited in all enclosed garages. For tailgating supplies, Jewel-Osco has multiple locations throughout Chicago, including one about a mile from the stadium. {place:ChIJaTGaBpssDogR9iA4JSS_C0E|Trader Joe's}} is another convenient option for groceries. For beverages, Binny's Beverage Depot - South Loop and Taylor Wine & Spirits are nearby options. Target Grocery also offers essentials.
Public Transit
- The LRoosevelt Station services the Green, Orange, and Red Lines and is a short walk from the stadium. Fans coming in on all other lines can transfer in the Loop
- Metra Commuter RailFans coming from the outer suburbs can take the Metra into the city. The Metra Electric (ME) line stops at both the 18th St (south) and Museum Campus (north) stations a short walk from the stadium. Fans coming in on other lines will have to transfer to parts of the CTA with the #128 bus being a popular option
- BussesThe CTA #146 and CTA #128 are the main bus options to get to the stadium. Pace Express Buses operates a Soldier Field Express bus during the season from six suburban park-and-rides.
Rideshare
- The designated rideshare zone is at the 18th Street turnaround west of Lake Shore Drive and at Balbo and Columbus Drives

The South Loop neighborhood near Soldier Field has evolved into a vibrant dining and entertainment district. The area is walkable from the stadium and offers a mix of sports bars, Chicago classics, and upscale options. The Museum Campus location means you're also steps away from world class museums if you're visiting before or after the game.

- The Neoclassical Facadethe stadium opened in 1924 featuring iconic Doric columns that trace the East and West sides of the structure. Though the interior seating bowl was completely demolished and modernized during the controversial 2003 renovation (which resulted in the stadium being delisted as a National Historic Landmark in 2006), these historic concrete colonnades were preserved as an architectural shield around the modern bowl.

- Tribute to Freedom & Veteran’s Memorial Water Wall (North Entrance)Located outside the North Entrance, this military memorial was dedicated on Veterans Day in 2003. Designed by Anna Koh Varilla and Jeffrey Hanson Varilla, it features a 15-foot bronze bas-relief of service members and their families alongside a 280-foot polished green granite water wall embellished with bronze medallions representing each branch of the U.S. Armed Services. It prominently features an etched quote on liberty from President John F. Kennedy.
- Special Olympics Eternal Flame of Hope (North Plaza)Standing just outside the stadium footprint in the adjacent plaza is a 30-foot steel sculpture by Richard Hunt, erected in 2018 to honor the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics. It sits on the exact grounds where the inaugural Special Olympics games were held in 1968 and features a continuous live flame.
- The Doughboy Statue (Inside Gate 0)Keeping true to the stadium's original 1925 name to honor the American soldiers who lost their lives in World War I, a historic bronze "Doughboy" infantry statue stands directly inside Gate 0 at the south end of the stadium to greet fans.
