A Guide to the Stadium
Lucas Oil Stadium serves as the home of the Indianapolis Colts, featuring a signature retractable roof and operable window that provides natural light and views of the downtown skyline. Centrally located in a walkable downtown district, the venue features a direct skywalk connections to major hotels and the Indiana Convention Center.
Getting to Lucas Oil Stadium
Driving & Parking
- DrivingFrom I-70, take the West Street exit and head south. From I-65, take the Meridian/Pennsylvania Street exit. From I-465 (the loop), take I-70 East or I-65 South into downtown. Indianapolis traffic is generally manageable compared to larger cities, but game days can congest the downtown exits.
- ParkingThe team does not control any of the parking lots near the stadium leaving fans reliant on private options. Many of the lots closest to the stadium are reserved for season pass holders, though parking is plentiful throughout downtown Indianapolis. While tailgating is allowed in most lots it is less emphasized than other, more suburban stadiums. For tailgate supplies, Kroger has a downtown location. Needler's Fresh Market is a quality local grocery option. For beverages, Big Red Liquors is an Indiana chain with convenient locations, and Quality Liquors offers a broader selection.
Public Transit
- The Red Line BRT bus route runs North-South along Meridian/Capitol corridors connecting Broad Ripple to downtown and the university area. The Julia Carson Transit Center and Statehouse Station stops are the closest stops. The Purple Line BRT runs Northeast to Lawrence and terminates at the Julia Carson Transit Center Station.
Rideshare
- The designated rideshare zones is one block east of the stadium on the Norhtbound side of Illinois St.
Pregame Festivities
Downtown Indianapolis is remarkably walkable, and the stadium's location puts fans within a few blocks of excellent bars, restaurants, and entertainment. Georgia Street has been developed as an entertainment corridor, and the Mass Ave cultural district is about a 15-minute walk north.
Pregame Bars & Restaurants
- The oldest bar in Indiana (established 1850) it features live blues music, a full bar, and a history that includes stints as a slaughterhouse, bordello, and Underground Railroad station.
- A high energy sports bar with multiple levels, large bar, and a rowdy atmosphere. Their breadsticks are famous in Indianapolis.
- A gastropub with an impressive craft beer selection
- A Belgian-inspired gastropub featuring creative cuisine in a polished taproom.
- A legendary Indianapolis deli that has been serving the city since 1905. Their corned beef, matzo ball soup, and stacked sandwiches are an institution.
- An indoor/outdoor beer hall with Bavarian-style decor offering German food, beers &, live music.
- Entertainment complex with bowling, arcade games, and karaoke.
- A live music venue and bar in the entertainment corridor, offering blues, soul, and R&B performances with a full bar.
- A downtown bar and grill offering comfort food and cold drinks in a casual atmosphere.
- A neighborhood bar that's been a gathering spot for decades. Cheap drinks and genuine character.
Monuments & Unique Features
- The Retractable Roof & WindowThe stadium features a retractable roof that opens in approximately 11 minutes and a 400-ton, seven story operable window on the north end that provides views of the downtown skyline. When both are open, the stadium has an outdoor feel while maintaining enclosed stadium amenities.
- Peyton Manning StatueA 9-foot bronze statue of Peyton Manning located outside the North Gate depicts the Hall of Fame quarterback in his signature pre-snap stance, complete with a helmet (at Manning’s request)
- The Ring of HonorDisplayed on the interior fascia between the levels of the stadium, the Ring of Honor commemorates legends of the franchise such as Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and original Indianapolis owner Robert Irsay.
- Championship BannersBanners for the Super Bowl XLI (2006) Championship as well as the 2009 AFC Championship and various AFC South division titles are hung from the rafters in the South End Zone.
