A Guide to Arrowhead Stadium

Arrowhead Stadium, originally opened in 1972 as part of the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, stands as the iconic home to the Kansas City Chiefs. This open air stadium is renowned for its passionate tailgating culture, unmatched crowd volume, and an exhilarating gameday atmosphere.

Getting to the Stadium

Driving & Parking

  • Driving
From I-70, take Exit 9 (Blue Ridge Cutoff/Truman Sports Complex). From I-435, take the Stadium Drive exit. From downtown Kansas City, take I-70 East. Gameday traffic on I-70 and the complex access roads begins building 3-4 hours before kickoff as tailgaters arrive early.
  • Parking
The Truman Sports Complex has massive parking lots surrounding both Arrowhead and adjacent Kauffman Stadium. Pre-purchasing passes through the Chiefs' website is required. The lots open 5 hours before kickoff, and Chiefs tailgates are legendary with elaborate BBQ setups, smokers, and full outdoor kitchens. For tailgate supplies, Price Chopper is a Kansas City grocery chain with convenient locations. Hy-Vee Grocery Store is another popular regional chain with a great deli section. For beverages, Gomer's Midtown is a well-stocked KC liquor store with an excellent craft beer selection and convenient location.
    • Platinum Parking
Lots M (between the stadiums) and E (southeast) are exclusive to Suite and Season ticket holders and not generally available for purchase.
    • Gold Parking
These parking passes provide access to the inner ring of the surrounding lots. Closer to the stadium for a higher price
    • Red Parking
The outer ring of the surrounding lots, these are the more affordable options and may make the exit after the game quicker

Public Transit

  • The 47-Broadway bus line offers service from downtown and the Country Club Plaza to the Truman Sports Complex. Check the RideKC website for gameday schedules, as they can be limited.

Rideshare

  • The designated Rideshare zone is at the Missouri Welcome Center behind Lot A closer to Kauffman Stadium. Be sure to follow the path down Red Coat Ln to reach the stadium safely. Post game, the parking lot gridlock can be severe and many fans tailgate after the game for an hour or two to let traffic clear.

Pregame Festivities

The pregame experience at Arrowhead is defined by the tailgate. Chiefs fans are passionate about BBQ, and the parking lots transform into the world's largest outdoor barbecue competition. The greater Kansas City area, particularly the Westport and Power & Light districts, also offers excellent pregame options.

Pregame Bars & Restaurants

  • A Kansas City BBQ institution since 1946. The moment you walk in and hear "Hi, may I help you!" barked at full volume, you know you're in a special place. Their burnt ends, ribs, and signature sauce are legendary.
  • A Kansas City BBQ legend on Blue Parkway. LC's serves some of the best burnt ends and ribs in a city full of world class BBQ joints. The smoky, peppery flavor profile sets it apart from other KC BBQ.
  • A Kansas City institution serving chili in the classic KC style — thick, meaty, and served with crackers. The chili is rich, hearty, and perfect fuel for a cold weather game.
  • A classic Kansas City drive-in restaurant. Burgers, fries, onion rings, and milkshakes in the old school drive-in tradition. It's been serving the east side of KC for decades and is the quintessential quick pregame stop before hitting the lots.
  • A sports bar with multiple TVs, cold beer, standard bar fare, and a pregame crowd of Chiefs fans gathering before the walk to the gates.
  • A neighborhood bar near the stadium complex offering a casual, no-frills atmosphere for pregame drinks. Local dive-bar character with cheap drinks and friendly regulars.
  • Originally Oklahoma Joe's, this BBQ joint inside a gas station has been named the best BBQ in Kansas City by countless publications. The Z-Man sandwich (brisket, provolone, onion rings) is a masterpiece.
  • Known as the "King of Ribs" this is one of the original Kansas City BBQ legends, serving since 1930. Presidents, celebrities, and BBQ pilgrims have eaten here. The thick, tangy sauce and large portions are old school KC BBQ at its finest.
