A Guide to Empower Field at Mile High
Nestled in Denver's Sun Valley neighborhood just west of downtown, Empower Field at Mile High serves as the home of the Denver Broncos. This open air stadium is globally recognized for its position exactly 5,280 feet above sea level, yielding a fierce altitude advantage over visiting opponents while being framed by panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains to the west.
Getting to the Stadium
Driving & Parking
- DrivingFrom I-25, take Exit 210B (Colfax Avenue) and head west, or take Exit 209A (Federal Boulevard) and head north. From I-70, take I-25 South to the Colfax exit. From downtown Denver, head west on Colfax Avenue or 17th Street. Gameday traffic on Federal Boulevard and Colfax builds 2-3 hours before kickoff.
- ParkingThe majority of the parking lots immediately surrounding the stadium are exclusively sold to season ticket holders. Though some are held back for non-season ticket holding fans they are very limited and require pre-purchase. The lots have relatively strict tailgating policies as well including no open flames. Off-site alternatives include Ball Arena, Auraria Campus, Denver Aquarium, and Riverside Church which are all walking distance to the stadium. For tailgate supplies, King Soopers (Kroger-owned, the dominant Denver chain) has multiple convenient locations. For beverages, Argonaut Wine & Liquor is a Denver institution and one of the largest liquor stores in the state with an incredible craft beer and spirit selection.
Public Transit
- RTD Light RailThe Empower Field Light Rail Station drops fans off just east of the stadium with service from the E and W lines. Though further away the Decatur-Federal Station is a good alternative for fans trying to beat the crowds after the game. The E Line services the Southeast Corridor while the W Line services the West. Fans on the A, B/N Lines can transfer at Union Station while fans on the D and H Lines transfer to the E at I-25 & Broadway.
Rideshare
- The designated Rideshare Zone is east of the stadium in the Ball Arena and Auraria off-site parking lots near the Empower Stadium Mile High Light Rail station, though walking a few minutes in any direction should help alleviate congestion and some surge pricing
Pregame Festivities
Denver's pregame scene benefits from the stadium's proximity to downtown, the LoHi (Lower Highlands) neighborhood, and the RiNo (River North Art District) area. The craft beer scene in Denver is among the best in America, and game-day bar hopping is part of the culture.
Pregame Bars & Restaurants
- A Denver neighborhood bar and restaurant on Sheridan Boulevard, not far from the stadium. They serve classic American bar fare — burgers, wings, and sandwiches — in a casual, unpretentious atmosphere. It's a reliable pregame stop for food and drinks close to the stadium.
- A Denver institution on 38th Avenue serving massive, overstuffed Mexican-style green chile burritos that have been a local obsession for decades. The smothered breakfast burritos and green chili are legendary. This is the kind of place that defines a city's food culture — no-frills, enormous portions, and unforgettable flavor. About 10 minutes from the stadium.
- A Denver-born sandwich chain known for their toasted hoagies and subs. Fresh bread baked daily, quality meats and cheeses, and generous portions. Multiple Denver locations make it convenient for a quick, satisfying pregame meal.
- A craft brewery and restaurant on West 44th Avenue in the Berkeley neighborhood. They brew creative beers and serve a solid food menu in a warm, inviting taproom. A quality pregame beer stop about 10 minutes from the stadium.
- A Denver craft brewery on Zuni Street, close to the stadium, known for creative and sometimes experimental beers. The taproom has a laid-back atmosphere, and the proximity to the stadium makes it a natural pregame stop for craft beer fans.
Monuments & Unique Features
- The Mile High Monument (Lot J)Located on the north side of the stadium, this outdoor museum is a meticulous 1/8th-scale mini-replica of the historic old Mile High Stadium. It preserves team history by featuring 176 salvaged original seats and a permanent bronze statue dedicated to the legendary superfan, "Barrel Man."
- Ring of Fame PlazaLocated outside the south entrance, this plaza features individual bronze-and-steel pillars honoring 38 franchise titans including players, coaches and owners.
- Interior Ring of FameThese individuals, such as John Elway, Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, Champ Bailey, and Peyton Manning, are also honored inside on the stadium's 500 level facade
- Bucky the BroncoStanding high above the stadium rim, this iconic 27-foot-tall fiberglass horse has watched over franchise home games since 1975. Following a total restoration, Bucky was re-mounted at the apex of the expanded south scoreboard, cementing his place as a permanent skyline fixture.
- Thunder the MascotThunder, a live Arabian horse ridden by Ann Judge, leads the team onto the field and gallops the length of the field after every Broncos touchdown. This tradition has been a staple of home games since 1993.
- The Mile High AltitudeAt 5,280 feet, the thin air provides a measurable advantage for the home team. Field goals travel farther, long passes hang in the air longer, and visiting teams visibly tire in the fourth quarter. It's the Broncos' invisible 12th man.
- The Foot-Stomping LegacyA tradition brought over from the old Mile High Stadium, metal flooring was installed in the stadium bowl allowing fans to stomp their feet during big moments, a phenomenon known as the Mile High Thunder
