A Guide to Reliant Stadium

As the home of the Houston Texans, this venue is celebrated for its retractable roof and high energy gameday atmosphere. Situated within the historic NRG Park complex, the stadium remains a centerpiece of Texas football culture, offering fans a modern experience that blends outdoor tradition with climate-controlled comfort.

Getting to the Stadium

The stadium sits at 1 NRG Parkway in Houston's South Main area, within the NRG Park complex that also includes NRG Arena, NRG Center, and the Astrodome. The location is accessible via the 610 Loop and multiple highways.

Driving & Parking

  • Driving
From I-610 (the Loop), take the Kirby Drive or Fannin Street exits and follow signs to NRG Park. From US-59 (Southwest Freeway), exit at Kirby Drive. From I-45 South, exit at the 610 Loop and head west. Houston traffic is notoriously heavy, so plan accordingly
  • Parking
The NRG Park complex has extensive parking. Pre-purchased parking is required for all lots except the Maroon Lot southwest of the stadium which offers limited gameday purchase. Lots open 4 hours before kickoff except the Platinum lot which opens 5 hours before. The Gold and part of the Green Lots are restricted to fans with suite and season tickets. For tailgate supplies, Kroger and H-E-B (Texas's beloved grocery chain) both have locations nearby. For beverages, Spec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods is a Houston institution with a massive selection and competitive prices. The Liquor Store #5 is another convenient option.

Public Transit

  • The METRORail Red Line serves the NRG Park/Fannin South station, a short walk from the stadium. From downtown Houston, the ride takes about 20 minutes. On game days, METRO runs additional trains. The METRORail is the most efficient way to get to the game from the downtown hotel district.

Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)

  • Designated rideshare zones are on Kirby Drive and McNee Road. Expect surge pricing of 2-3x on game days. Post-game, walking to the NRG/Fannin South METRORail station is often faster than waiting for a rideshare in the parking lot gridlock.

Pregame Festivities

The NRG Park area itself is dominated by parking lots and tailgating, but the surrounding neighborhoods — Midtown, Montrose, the Museum District, and the Medical Center area — offer excellent restaurant and bar options within a short drive.

Pregame Bars & Restaurants

  • A classic Houston ice house (outdoor beer bar) that captures the city's casual drinking culture. Ice houses are a Houston tradition — open-air bars where you can bring your own food, drink cheap beer, and watch the game on outdoor TVs.
  • One of Houston's most popular ice houses, located on Kirby Drive near the stadium. Massive outdoor space, a huge beer selection, and food trucks make it a perfect pregame gathering spot for large groups.
  • A Houston Tex-Mex institution serving some of the city's best fajitas, margaritas, and queso. The Original location on Navigation Blvd is legendary, but multiple locations make it accessible for pregame.
  • A honky-tonk and restaurant on Kirby Drive that embodies Texas culture — live country music, cold beer, barbecue, and a dance floor. It's uniquely Houston and about 5 minutes from the stadium.
  • A Houston barbecue chain that serves reliable, quality Texas BBQ — brisket, ribs, sausage, and all the fixings. Multiple locations near the stadium make it convenient for pregame fueling.
  • The Memphis-born fried chicken chain has a Houston location serving their signature spicy, crispy bird. A solid pregame option for fried chicken enthusiasts.
  • A neighborhood grill near the stadium area offering American comfort food in a casual setting.
  • A Houston chicken spot on South Main Street near the stadium, offering creative chicken sandwiches and sides.
  • A Vietnamese-inspired fast-casual restaurant near the Medical Center serving rice boxes, banh mi, and pho. Houston's enormous Vietnamese community makes it one of the best cities in America for Vietnamese food.
  • A family-friendly restaurant near the Galleria area serving Italian and American comfort food in a warm atmosphere.
  • near the stadium area provides the standard sports bar experience for those wanting familiarity.
  • A neighborhood bar and grill offering a relaxed pregame atmosphere.

Monuments & Unique Features

  • The retired "Eighth Wonder of the World" sits adjacent to NRG Stadium. Opened in 1965 as the world's first domed, air-conditioned multi-purpose stadium, it hosted the Oilers, Astros, and countless events. While no longer in use, its distinctive shape is an iconic part of the Houston skyline and the complex. There are periodic efforts to renovate it.
  • The Bull Statues
Large bronze bull statues at the Bud Light Plaza (South side) and near the Ford Gate are a nod to Houston's rodeo and cattle heritage.
  • The Ring of Honor
The names of the 4 inductees are on the facade of the 300 level on along the sidelines
  • Division Championship Banners
Banners for the 8 AFC South Division Championships are displayed above the stands on along the sidelines of the building
