A Guide to the Alamodome
The Alamodome gives UTSA Roadrunners football a climate-controlled downtown San Antonio home with the scale of a major civic venue and the noise of a much tighter college stadium. Opened in 1993, the fully enclosed dome amplifies the band and student section, while its location near Hemisfair and the River Walk makes UTSA game day easy to combine with the city’s restaurants, nightlife and unmistakable Texas character.
Getting to the Alamodome
The Alamodome stands at 100 Montana Street, San Antonio, Texas 78203, just east of Interstate 37. It is close to downtown on a map, but freeway ramps, Cherry Street controls and large-event closures make the final half-mile the difficult part.
Driving & Parking
- From I-37Use the event-specific approach to Lots A, B or C and follow officers rather than a last-minute navigation reroute.
- Cherry Street restrictionDuring peak traffic, northbound Cherry may close at César E. Chávez Boulevard. Drivers for Lots B and C should approach southbound from Commerce or Houston streets.
- Permit lotsUTSA football parking in Alamodome Lots A, B and C is normally restricted to previously purchased passes. Do not count on day-of-game inventory at the stadium.
- Opening timeFor a typical afternoon game, permit and tailgate lots open around 8 a.m.—generally five hours before doors, not five hours before kickoff. Confirm the published timeline for the specific date.
- Downtown alternativesCity garages and private lots around the convention center and Hemisfair sell event parking. Verify whether a private operator permits tailgating.
- Accessible parkingLimited first-come spaces are in Lot A with a valid state-issued placard or plate. The accessible drop-off ramp remains available in Lot A even after parking fills.
- DepartureTailgating ends and stadium lots close one hour after the game. Expect officers to send vehicles away from the route used on arrival.
Public Transit
- VIA Park & RideSpecial-event buses have served UTSA games from Crossroads Park & Ride and, on selected dates, Brooks. The recent round-trip fare has been $2.60, with qualifying discounts.
- Service windowEvent buses generally begin three hours before kickoff and return until one hour after the game. Check the current game guide because origin points can change.
- Robert Thompson Transit StationBuses unload beside the Alamodome, avoiding the most congested parking approaches.
- UTSA student shuttleThe school has operated free home-game service from the Main Campus North Paseo Bus Oval, with return trips beginning in the fourth quarter.
- U-Pass and mobile paymentUTSA students can use U-Pass on eligible service; other riders can buy through VIA's goMobile+ app or at the event-service origin.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)
- Lot DThe designated rideshare, taxi and limousine zone is at 500 Tower of the Americas Way, between Montana Street and César E. Chávez Boulevard.
- North Plaza approachA pedestrian walkway connects Lot D to the H-E-B Plaza security checkpoint, making it safer than an improvised stop on the I-37 frontage road.
- Postgame pickupWalk to Lot D before requesting, identify the exact pickup row and expect the driver to approach from the southbound access road.
- Southtown alternativeWalking toward an open Southtown business before ordering can separate you from dome traffic, provided your group is comfortable with the route.
Pregame Festivities
The heart of UTSA pregame is outside the dome between H-E-B Plaza, Roadrunner Alley and Lots B and C. San Antonio's climate means the earliest hours can be hot, but the compact layout lets visitors sample the public fan festival, team arrival and a permit-lot tailgate without moving the car.
Tailgating
- Lots B and CThese permit areas hold the main traditional setups. Every vehicle is inspected, and chairs, canopies, grills or coolers must remain within the designated space.
- Roadrunner AlleyThe corridor between Lots B and C becomes the route for Spirit Walk and the center of orange-and-blue energy before the team enters.
- Forever Rowdy TailgateUTSA Alumni Association members gather in Lot B for first-come food, drinks, buttons and merchandise with a current membership card.
- Rowdy Town LiveThe free 2026 fan zone returns to H-E-B Plaza with live music, family games, sponsor activations and giveaways.
- TimingUTSA lots generally open five hours before stadium doors. Tailgating must stop at kickoff and may resume afterward only until the lot's one-hour closing deadline.
- RulesOpen-flame devices, alcohol and food service must comply with Alamodome, city and Texas regulations. Selling food, drinks or services without approval is prohibited.
Pregame Bars & Restaurants
- The Hemisfair location offers wood-fired pizza and a polished sit-down option west of the dome.
- German-inspired food and beer in Hemisfair work well for a group approaching from downtown.
- Southtown's outdoor icehouse combines a broad beer list, casual food and televisions in a setting suited to football weather.
- A long-running San Antonio favorite for contemporary Tex-Mex and margaritas in the Southtown area.
- Cherrity BarEast of downtown, this neighborhood bar pairs cocktails and beer with Japanese comfort food while supporting rotating charities.
- River Walk optionsDowntown's best-known district offers enormous variety, but allow extra walking time and avoid assuming a table will be available on a major-event weekend.
Gameday Traditions
- Birds UpFans form a roadrunner head with the hand—thumb and little finger extended—and raise it during introductions, photos and key moments.
- Spirit WalkThe team comes from Cherry Street through Roadrunner Alley between Lots B and C, welcomed by Rowdy, cheer, pom and the Spirit of San Antonio band.
- Rowdy the RoadrunnerThe costumed mascot works the fan zone and sideline, translating the school's fast-moving bird identity into a family-friendly presence.
- SOSAThe Spirit of San Antonio marching band occupies Sections 127–128 in the student area and supplies the fight song, stand tunes and halftime show.
- Rowdy RushSelected students line the entrance and help welcome the Roadrunners onto the field, especially at the home opener.
- Rowdy Light ShowFans activate the feature through the UTSA Roadrunners mobile app, synchronizing phone lights during the team introduction.

Seating & Sections

- West sidelineSeats opposite the Roadrunners provide comparable sightlines behind the visiting team and can be useful value choices.
- Student seatingLower-level general admission traditionally spans Sections 122–131, with the band in 127–128; overflow may open in 318–329 for major crowds.
- Plaza LevelThe 100s deliver the most conventional football experience, with easier field proximity and simpler concourse access.
- Club LevelThe 200s offer premium spaces and suite access. The 2025 project added 18 suites and renovated 52 existing ones.
- Upper LevelThe 300s can provide excellent full-field geometry at a lower price, but escalator and exit time increase substantially.
- End zonesLower end-zone seats bring fans close to scoring plays while compressing distance at the far goal line.
- Accessible seatingWheelchair and companion locations exist on multiple levels. Arrange the ticket in advance and use Lot A for the most direct accessible arrival.
