A Guide to DATCU Stadium
DATCU Stadium is a modern, track-free home for North Texas football beneath the wide Denton sky. The 30,100-seat horseshoe incorporates an eagle into its silhouette, while three wind turbines beyond the bowl reinforce UNT’s distinctive green identity. A close student section, the Green Brigade and the pedestrian connection to campus make the former Apogee Stadium feel intimate, inventive and unmistakably Mean Green.
Getting to DATCU Stadium
The physical address is 1251 South Bonnie Brae Street, Denton, Texas 76207. The main campus is north of I-35E, while the stadium and most athletics facilities are south of it. North Texas Boulevard, Bonnie Brae Street, the frontage roads and the pedestrian bridge distribute the crowd.
Driving & Parking
- From Dallas and I-35EFollow the route attached to the assigned lot rather than automatically taking North Texas Boulevard. TxDOT work has changed ramps and frontage-road movements near the I-35E/I-35W split.
- Digital passesUNT sells single-game parking in advance and, when inventory remains, at selected lots. Add the pass to a mobile wallet before leaving the hotel; some lots are permit-only.
- Public lotsThe Blue and Orange lots have been UNT's primary advance and day-of-sale choices, with Red and Brown also accepting game-day payment in the latest plan. Prices and availability are season-specific, so use the live page rather than an old screenshot.
- Accessible parkingADA spaces are first-come in the Blue and Orange lots with a valid plate or placard. Shuttles stage near Victory Hall in Blue and at the bus station on Orange's north end; the latest schedule began three and two hours before kickoff, respectively.
- RV parkingSeason and individual RV inventory is offered in Blue, with limited day-of options in Orange. Reserve through the Mean Green Scholarship Fund and confirm the overnight deadline; recent rules allowed departure by noon the next day.
- After the gamePolice may hold or redirect vehicles until pedestrian traffic clears. Stay with the signed outbound pattern instead of trying to reverse the pregame route.
Public Transit
- DCTA Connect Route 7The current Denton route links the Downtown Denton Transit Center with UNT and includes the DATCU Stadium Park & Ride. Check the football-day schedule in the Transit app because ordinary Saturday frequency may not match kickoff demand.
- A-train connectionRiders from Carrollton can take DCTA's A-train to the Downtown Denton Transit Center and transfer to Route 7. This is workable but slower than driving, so build in the rail-to-bus connection.
- UNT campus shuttlesThe university network serves the campus and stadium district. It is free with a valid UNT ID; members of the public pay the normal DCTA fare unless a football promotion says otherwise.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)
- Official zoneUNT designates Murchison Circle Drive on the northwest side of the Murchison Performing Arts Center, reached from the I-35E frontage road, for Uber and Lyft drop-off.
- Not the stadium pinEnter the rideshare zone itself; a request to 1251 South Bonnie Brae may send the driver toward a permit checkpoint.
- Walk from MurchisonThe performing arts center is north of the interstate. Follow the marked campus route and pedestrian bridge to the stadium rather than improvising across traffic.
- Postgame pickupReturn to the designated area before requesting. Cell service and freeway congestion can create a delay, so share the exact circle-drive name with the driver.
Pregame Festivities
The Hill and Mean Green Live make the exterior of DATCU Stadium the center of the day. The official fan zone mixes live music, food trucks and family activities, while the team, Green Brigade, dancers and cheerleaders pass directly through the scene during the Mean Green March. Published times have varied by game, so use the weekly schedule.
Tailgating
- The HillReserved turnkey spaces outside the stadium include tent, table and chair combinations in several sizes. Official activity has recently begun three hours before kickoff.
- Mean Green LiveThe free fan zone presents local and regional bands, a kids zone and rotating food trucks. Concerts have typically started two hours before kickoff.
- Mean Green MarchClaim a place along the route from Traditions Hall through Mean Green Village. Recent game schedules have placed team arrival between two hours and two hours 45 minutes before kickoff.
- Parking-lot tailgatesA setup must fit within the purchased space and cannot occupy an empty stall, sidewalk or traffic lane. Saving spaces for later vehicles is prohibited.
- AlcoholResponsible lawful consumption is allowed in tailgate areas, but glass containers and kegs are prohibited. Police patrol the lots.
- Tents and soundCanopies may not block traffic or extend into another stall. On The Hill, speakers should face away from the circle drive and neighborhood.
Pregame Bars & Restaurants
- On the Denton Square, LSA pairs musician-themed burgers with a rooftop patio. It is lively and unmistakably local, but Square parking becomes scarce on game days.
- East Side DentonOne block from the Square, this large indoor-outdoor bar has dozens of taps, an extensive whiskey selection and a rotating food-truck park behind it.
- Denton's original gastropub occupies the historic Texas Building and works well for a more polished Friday dinner or a meal several hours before kickoff.
- A casual Denton roadhouse for burgers, barbecue, chicken-fried steak and cold beer, with a straightforward college-football atmosphere.
- Finish on the Square with house-made ice cream in a vintage soda-fountain setting, or look for the local brand inside the stadium.
Gameday Traditions
- Mean Green MarchThe Green Brigade, dancers, cheerleaders and team travel from Traditions Hall through the tailgates to DATCU Stadium. Weekly timing controls.
- “Heeeeeere come the Mean Green!”The announcer stretches the introduction as the team takes the field and the crowd completes the familiar call.
- Eagle Claws kickoff cheerFans raise an eagle-claw hand sign and hold a long “GOOOO” until the kick, then shout “Mean Green!”
- First-down responseThe announcer begins, “That's good for another Mean Green...” and the crowd supplies “FIRST DOWN!”
- Green Brigade scoring musicThe band plays “Fanfare” after a touchdown and the fight song after the extra point or a field goal.
- ScrappyThe costumed eagle works the student section, sideline and family events, turning the stadium's eagle architecture into a living mascot identity.
Monuments & Features
- Eagle-wing grandstandsTwin north-end structures rise like spread wings, the visual signature HKS built into the stadium.
- Wind turbinesThree turbines beside the venue have fed renewable power into UNT's Eagle Point grid since 2012. They are functional infrastructure as well as an unmistakable landmark.
- LEED Platinum designDATCU became the first newly constructed collegiate football stadium to earn the top LEED certification, using regional and recycled materials plus water- and energy-saving systems.
- Mean Green battle flagA giant green flag flies from a 120-foot pole near the north side, visible from the interstate and tailgate areas.

Seating & Sections
The field runs roughly north–south. The west side contains the premium tower and chairbacks; the east side provides the opposite sideline view and absorbs more afternoon sun. The compact lower bowl is easy to navigate, but Texas heat makes shade and hydration more important than a small difference in yard line.
- West Sections 104–106Wider 22-inch mesh chairbacks with cup holders replaced standard seats here in 2024. They offer the best conventional comfort near midfield.
- HUB ClubApproximately 750 west-tower club seats pair an elevated view with an indoor hospitality space. Confirm whether food and beverage are included with the exact product.
- East sidelineGood sightlines and proximity to the visiting bench can mean strong value, but little relief from sun during afternoon games.
- End-zone seatingThe compact north end and general-admission or reserved products put fans close to scoring action at a lower price, with flatter views of the far goal line.
- Student atmosphereUNT students create the most continuous energy. Nearby seats suit visitors who want noise, standing and band involvement.
- Accessible seatingPlatforms sit at the top of each lower-bowl section and on the club level. Inventory is limited and first-come, so arrange the correct ticket early.
- Entry gatesWest tickets generally use Gate 2, east tickets Gate 4, and general admission or end-zone reserved tickets Gate 3. Gates open 90 minutes before kickoff.
Concessions
DATCU has 23 concession locations around its broad concourses. UNT's active menu page is useful for stand names and sections, but its posted prices may predate the current season; treat the mobile or in-stadium menu as controlling.
- Victory GrillSections 106, 113 and 121 anchor the standard menu with hot dogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, nachos, popcorn and drinks.
- Scrappy's FavoritesSections 105, 112 and 120 add chicken tenders, sausage and pizza to the stadium basics.
- North Texas CantinaNear Section 103, this is the stop for walking tacos, larger nachos and sausage wraps.
- Metzler's BBQLocal barbecue offerings have appeared near Sections 104 and 111, including sandwiches, sausage and Frito pie.
- The Denton ice-cream institution has served scoops, cookies and a Mean Green sundae near Sections 104, 111 and 119.
- The Wing PubThe southwest-corner social area beneath the auxiliary board has offered beer, wine and spirits with a field view for guests 21 and older.
- Water allowanceOne unopened bottle of water, one liter or smaller, may enter. Take advantage of that exception during early-season heat.
Bag Policy
- Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags may be no larger than 12 by 12 inches. UNT's published rule does not state a depth measurement, so do not assume the common six-inch allowance applies.
- A one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag is permitted as an alternative.
- One small clutch up to 8.5 by 5.5 inches is allowed. The clutch may be non-clear.
- Diaper bags are an exception only when accompanied by the child and remain subject to inspection.
- Seat cushions are permitted only without pockets. Backpacks, large purses, luggage, coolers and cases are prohibited.
- Binoculars without a case, a small camera with a lens under 100 millimeters, blankets, rain apparel and a small radio are permitted.
- Umbrellas, glass or metal beverage containers, artificial noisemakers, selfie sticks, video recorders and tripods are prohibited.
- Metal detectors are used at the entrances. Re-entry is not allowed except for an emergency, so leave noncompliant items in the vehicle before crossing the pedestrian bridge.
