Flagler Credit Union Stadium
A Guide to Flagler Credit Union Stadium
Flagler Credit Union Stadium delivers Florida Atlantic football with palm trees, ocean air and Boca Raton sunsets. Branded “Football in Paradise,” the 29,495-seat home surrounds natural-grass Howard Schnellenberger Field less than two miles from the Atlantic. Tropical landscaping, Owl Walk, the Marching Owls and a close bowl turn an evening kickoff into a breezy South Florida experience tied directly to the program’s founder.
Getting to Flagler Credit Union Stadium
The stadium is on FAU's Boca Raton campus at 777 Glades Road, immediately east of I-95. Glades Road is the obvious exit and therefore the most congested. Yamato Road to the north and Spanish River Boulevard to the east can offer alternate campus approaches when the current parking map permits them.
Driving & Parking
- From I-95Use Exit 45 for Glades Road and follow event signs toward the campus entrance assigned to the parking color. The short distance from the interstate can still consume significant time near kickoff.
- From Florida's TurnpikeExit at Glades Road and travel east. Boca retail traffic combines with football traffic, so add time well before reaching I-95.
- Advance parkingFAU strongly encourages buying a football permit before game day. Use the current pass and map; older references to color assignments or cash lots may not reflect the latest inventory.
- Lot openingStadium lots open four hours before kickoff, which is also when ordinary tailgating may begin. Arriving at opening is worthwhile for rivalry and Florida-opponent games.
- Student parkingCurrent student guidance places eligible parking in Green/Cash areas or Lot 5 behind the student tailgate, with an Owl Card required where applicable.
- RV parkingThe designated RV area is Lot 5A on the former tarmac northeast of Lot 5. Reserve the correct oversized credential rather than arriving with a standard automobile pass.
- Traffic informationCheck FL511 before departure and follow FAU game-day operations updates. Postgame police routing may override the return suggested by a navigation app.
- Heat protectionNever leave people or pets in a parked car, and bring water for the four-hour tailgate. South Florida heat remains dangerous well into the evening.
Public Transit
- Tri-RailThe Boca Raton station on Yamato Road connects the area with Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, but it is not walkable to the stadium for most visitors.
- Palm Tran Route 94This route connects Boca Raton Tri-Rail with FAU and continues toward Federal Highway and Camino Real. Check the Saturday timetable against kickoff and overtime before relying on it for the return.
- Palm Tran Route 91The Glades Road crosstown route also serves the FAU area and can connect from western Boca Raton, though event congestion affects schedules.
- Special shuttlesFAU has offered dedicated Tri-Rail football shuttles in prior seasons, but the current A-to-Z guide does not promise one for every game. Use Route 94 unless a game-week notice explicitly announces special service.
- Campus shuttlesOrdinary FAU buses primarily serve students, faculty and staff and operate varying hours. Do not assume a weekday route will run after a Saturday night game.
- Final trainTri-Rail and Palm Tran schedules do not flex for overtime. Record the last viable connection and retain a rideshare backup.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)
- Use the current zoneSelect the university's game-day pickup/drop-off location in the app or follow the week's parking map rather than sending a driver to the stadium's Glades Road mailing address.
- Pregame timingDrop at a campus edge before the heaviest I-95 and Glades Road surge, then walk toward Lot 5 for the Owl Walk.
- Avoid Lot 5The student tailgate, team buses and RV traffic make the north side a poor rideshare target in the final hours before kickoff.
- Postgame pickupWalk away from the stadium loop toward an open campus road before requesting and text a landmark or building number, not merely “FAU.”
- Beach and downtown tripsMizner Park and the beach district are short drives but can produce significant surge pricing after night games. Booking in advance is sensible when dinner reservations matter.
Pregame Festivities
FAU's scene is younger and looser than a century-old college town's. Student energy centers on Lot 5, while alumni and community tailgates spread through the permitted lots. Palm shade is limited, so a weighted canopy, sunscreen and cold water matter as much as the menu.
Tailgating
- Lot 5 student tailgateThe main student gathering occupies the lot north of the stadium and feeds directly into Owl Walk and Gate 5.
- Owl WalkApproximately two and a half hours before kickoff, team buses unload in Lot 5 and the Owls move through student tailgates into the stadium through Gate 5.
- General lotsTailgating begins when lots open four hours before kickoff. Tents, tables and tarps must stay within the assigned area and cannot block pedestrian or vehicle lanes.
- Secure the canopyStakes are generally unsuitable on paved areas and may be prohibited around underground infrastructure. Use weights; sudden tropical wind and rain can turn an unsecured tent into a hazard.
- Alcohol rulesGuests must follow Florida law and university policy. Unattended alcohol can be treated as distribution, and promotional activities involving alcohol or tobacco are prohibited.
- Storm planLightning is a routine South Florida risk. Know the nearest substantial building or vehicle, monitor official alerts and respond immediately to event-staff instructions.
- Fan ZoneSpecial games and preseason events use the area outside Gates 1 and 2 for DJs, rides, inflatables, sponsor activities and merchandise. Check the weekly guide because it is not identical every Saturday.
Pregame Bars & Restaurants
- Directly across Glades Road at 1400 Glades, this Italian restaurant offers pizza, pasta and reservations close to campus.
- The nearby polished American grill works for steaks, burgers and salads when a seated meal and air conditioning matter more than college-bar atmosphere.
- A casual Boca sports bar with televisions, darts, drinks and pub food, useful for watching earlier games before heading to the stadium.
- In Royal Palm Place east of campus, Biergarten pairs German-inspired food, beer and multiple screens with a lively game-day setting.
- The downtown Boca trattoria and pizzeria at 100 East Palmetto Park Road is a strong Friday-night or postgame reservation.
- The South Florida sports-bar chain has close ties to FAU fan events and provides wings, burgers and abundant televisions; choose the Boca location that best fits the parking route.
- This downtown district collects restaurants, bars and a walkable outdoor setting about a short drive east of campus, ideal for visitors staying near the beach.
Gameday Traditions
- Owl WalkFans meet the buses in Lot 5 about two and a half hours before kickoff and follow the Owls toward Gate 5.
- Football in ParadiseSchnellenberger's tropical vision lives in the program's defining phrase, used across stadium graphics, social media and game-day promotion.
- Owlsley and HootThe muscular lead mascot and smaller sidekick visit Owl Walk, student tailgates, the Alumni Center and the stadium for photographs and crowd interaction.
- Marching OwlsFAU's band performs pregame and sits with the student energy in the southeast area, supplying the fight song and soundtrack for the team's entrance.
- ProwlersThe official student support group organizes chants, cheers and attendance in the student section behind the visiting bench.
- Salute the HootFans form owl eyes with their hands around their face, a simple gesture created to rally support when the on-campus stadium was new.
- Shula BowlThe rivalry with FIU carries South Florida bragging rights and honors Don Shula. Its return to Boca creates the sharpest local atmosphere on the schedule.
- Postgame band gatheringPlayers and students often acknowledge the Marching Owls after the game, reinforcing a tradition built by a still-young program.
Monuments & Features
- Howard Schnellenberger FieldDedicated in 2014, the playing surface honors the founder who launched FAU football in 2001 and drove the campaign for an on-campus home.

- Palm-tree cornersNearly 200 palms within and around the stadium reinforce the open-air tropical design, especially around the southwest corners.
- Former airfieldThe campus occupies a World War II-era Army airfield, and the stadium rose near land once crossed by runways that had separated the young football program's facilities.
- West towerThe six-level structure combines suites, club spaces, loge seating, an open-air deck, press facilities and the venue's best elevated views.

Seating & Sections
Howard Schnellenberger Field runs north–south. The west tower holds home-side premium inventory and gains afternoon shade first; the east sideline faces it and takes the strongest sun. The student section is behind the visiting bench, with the Marching Owls in the southeast corner. Heat and shade should influence the ticket choice as much as yard line.
- West sidelineLower and upper seats beneath the tower offer the best chance of shade, proximity to the home side and access to the venue's principal premium entrances.
- East sidelineClear views back toward the tower and ocean-side sky come with direct afternoon sun. Prepare for heat even at a 6 p.m. September kickoff.
- Student sectionLocated behind the visiting bench and served by Gate 5, this is the standing, dancing heart of the stadium. Guests should expect noise and limited seated viewing.
- Visitor allotmentVisiting fans have most recently been assigned Section 119 in the lower level and 219 above it near the north end. Confirm the ticket because allocations can change.
- Marching OwlsThe band has occupied Section 129 in the southeast corner, integrated with students and close to the home postgame gathering.
- West tower premiumSuites, loge boxes, premier club seats and the climate-controlled club offer shade and hospitality; the open-air deck adds the strongest view of Boca's horizon.
- CabanasField-level south cabanas emphasize proximity and group entertaining, while north bar cabanas trade a conventional seat for a social setup.
- Accessible seatingWheelchair and companion spaces are distributed across levels, with tower elevators near the west concourse. Contact the ticket office before game day for exchanges and parking coordination.
Concessions
FAU combines ordinary stadium food with “Paradise Pricing,” its fan-friendly menu at designated stands. The most recent game guide placed those value stands behind Sections 215 and 226, while the general A-to-Z page carries older lower-level references. Use the current concessions map when the two differ.
- Paradise PricingValue stands sell hot dogs, snacks, soda, beer, seltzers and mixed drinks at reduced prices compared with other points of sale.
- Tacos Al CarbonSouth Florida-style tacos expand the menu beyond basic football fare when the vendor appears on the current map.
- Chick-fil-AChicken sandwiches and familiar quick-service items have appeared in recent FAU football concession lineups.

- Jimmy John'sWrapped sandwiches have joined recent game-day offerings and are useful in the heat when fried food feels heavy.
- Jeremiah's Italian IceA frozen dessert is particularly welcome at humid early-season games.
- 305 CrepesSweet and savory crepes add a distinct regional-vendor option when scheduled.
- HydrationWater fountains are available throughout the stadium, but outside drink containers are prohibited. Buy water early and watch for signs of heat illness.
