A Guide to Yulman Stadium

Yulman Stadium restored Tulane football to its Uptown New Orleans campus after nearly four decades in the Superdome. The compact 30,000-seat venue fits between athletics buildings and neighborhood streets, with checkerboard end zones, close student seating and campus tailgates creating a truly collegiate setting. Green Wave success, local food, music and hospitality make the atmosphere unmistakably New Orleans.

Getting to Yulman Stadium

Yulman Stadium is at 2900 Ben Weiner Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana 70118, on Tulane's Uptown campus. South Claiborne Avenue, Broadway Street, Willow Street and St. Charles Avenue frame the area, but game-day closures prevent a direct drive to the stadium door.

Driving & Parking

  • From Downtown
Use Claiborne Avenue or St. Charles-area cross streets toward Uptown, then follow the route attached to the parking pass. Do not enter Ben Weiner Drive as a general approach.
  • From I-10
Use Carrollton Avenue or Claiborne according to current traffic conditions. Neighborhood streets are narrow and parking enforcement is active.
  • Advance parking
Digital single-game passes are sold before games. Diboll Garage and Tailgate Village have been season-pass facilities, while construction has removed the former Claiborne Lot from inventory.
  • Drive-up parking
The latest plan limits game-day sales to Ursuline Academy and Loyola garages, card only. Confirm the 2026 price and lot openings on the live map.
  • Street closures
Ben Weiner Drive and Janet Yulman Way close to ordinary traffic on game days. Audubon Boulevard closes well before kickoff, and Willow Street becomes restricted to designated pass holders three hours before.
  • Opening time
Lots and fan-convenience shuttles generally begin five hours before kickoff, with a shorter window possible for morning games.
  • Accessible parking
Ursuline Academy provides drive-up ADA inventory and a stadium shuttle. Use the Claiborne entrance with a valid plate or placard.
  • Postgame
New Orleans police impose directional exits from many lots. Follow officers rather than trying to retrace the inbound route.

Public Transit

  • St. Charles streetcar
Ride Uptown from the Central Business District to the Tulane/Loyola area, then walk across campus. It is scenic rather than fast and can be crowded on event days.
  • Broadway stop
Leaving near Broadway and St. Charles creates a straightforward campus walk toward Freret Street and the athletics district.
  • RTA buses
Routes serving South Claiborne, Freret and Carrollton can reduce the walk, but construction and special events may cause detours. Use the Le Pass app or live tracker.
  • Tulane fan shuttles
The current football plan serves the Stadium Hub near Claiborne and Ben Weiner, Tailgate Village, St. Rita and Ursuline. These are parking shuttles, not a general downtown service.
  • Loyola garage limitation
Recent operations did not provide a stadium shuttle from the Loyola garages. Be prepared for the walk when choosing that drive-up option.

Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)

  • Official corridor
Tulane has designated South Claiborne Avenue between Ben Weiner Drive and Calhoun Street for rideshare pickup and drop-off.
  • Avoid the stadium address
Ben Weiner Drive is closed, so entering Yulman's street address can send the driver toward a barrier.
  • Pregame
Exit on Claiborne and follow the signed pedestrian route. Allow extra time to cross shuttle traffic and move through campus.
  • Postgame
Walk back to Claiborne before requesting. Send the driver a precise intersection because several closures look identical in the app.
  • Streetcar alternative
For a downtown hotel, walking to St. Charles and riding the streetcar may be more predictable than waiting in the Claiborne surge.

Pregame Festivities

Tulane spreads its pregame scene across the Lavin-Bernick Center lawn, Tailgate Village and Athletes Plaza. Live music and local food matter as much as formal football programming, and the compact campus makes it easy to move from one gathering to another without a car.

Tailgating

  • LBC lawn
The main public scene features a tailgate stage, rotating bands, food and Green Wave activities in the center of campus.
  • Tailgate Village
Reserved packages and organized groups gather around Newcomb Place and Newcomb Circle, with shuttle service to the stadium area.
  • Green Wave Club tent
Qualifying football season-ticket members receive hospitality access from three hours until 30 minutes before kickoff, with rotating local restaurant partners.
  • Party on the Plaza
The stadium's east-side plaza activates when gates open 90 minutes before kickoff, providing music, drinks and an early-entry gathering point.
  • Parking restriction
Tailgating is not permitted inside parking lots or garages. Use the approved lawn and village areas rather than setting up behind a vehicle.
  • General timeline
Tailgate Village traditionally opens four hours before kickoff, the band appears about an hour before and tailgating ends roughly 30 minutes before the game.

Pregame Bars & Restaurants

  • At the Riverbend end of St. Charles, this expansive tavern is known for oysters, po'boys, sports and a deep beer list.
  • The landmark Carrollton diner serves omelets, burgers, pecan pie and freezes from a wraparound counter with theatrical service.
  • Freret Street's polished burger shop is convenient for a straightforward meal between downtown and campus.
  • Also on Freret, Midway specializes in deep-dish pies, salads and beer in a casual room suited to groups.
  • The Freret location dresses sausages, hot dogs and vegetarian links with exuberant New Orleans toppings and a colorful patio.
  • Near the Riverbend, this intimate Creole restaurant is a strong Friday-night choice; reserve well ahead and do not treat it as a quick pregame stop.
  • A short rideshare away, the longtime Uptown counter serves fully dressed roast beef, shrimp and oyster po'boys.

Gameday Traditions

  • “Roll Wave”
The compact two-word cheer is Tulane's universal greeting and scoring response. Visitors will hear it throughout campus and the bowl.
  • Riptide
The costumed pelican mascot represents Tulane's modern athletics identity and appears in tailgates, student areas and on the sideline.
  • Angry Wave
The beloved retro wave logo has returned as a central mark on helmets, apparel and stadium graphics.
  • Tulane University Marching Band
The band performs in Tailgate Village, presents the pregame field show and drives “Roll On, Tulane” after scores.
  • Checkerboard end zones
Green-and-white squares recall old Tulane Stadium and visually connect the new campus home with its predecessor.
  • Team entrance
Players emerge from the south-side football complex onto Benson Field, now framed by smoke, video and the 2025 LED lighting system for night games.

Monuments & Features

  • Benson Field
The playing surface honors Tom and Gayle Benson, whose lead gift helped return Tulane football to campus.
  • Yulman name
Richard and Janet Yulman's foundational gift placed their family name on the building.
  • Athletes Plaza
The forecourt between athletics buildings ties the stadium to the campus rather than isolating it behind parking lots.
  • Hertz and Wilson centers
Existing basketball and football facilities form part of the stadium enclosure, a clever response to the constrained site.
  • LEED Silver design
Water-saving fixtures, recycled materials and efficient systems earned the project sustainable-building certification.
  • Neighborhood scale
The low, tight bowl fits among Uptown homes and oak-lined streets, creating a far more intimate setting than the Superdome.

Georgia Tech won the opener 38–21, but the sellout marked Tulane's first campus home game since 1974.

Seating & Sections

Benson Field runs north–south. The west side carries the main press and premium structure, while the east side contains broad general seating and the primary plaza access. Nearly every location feels close because there is no track and only 30,000 seats.

  • West sideline
Premium inventory and the press structure provide the best chance of shade and climate-controlled relief.
  • East sideline
Excellent proximity and a view toward the west club, but direct afternoon sun can be intense.
  • Glazer Family Club
Indoor lounges, a sports bar and west-side chairbacks create Yulman's principal premium experience.
  • Westfeldt Terrace
Elevated seating and concessions supply a social view above the lower bowl.
  • Uptown Terrace
Loge boxes and drink rails sit atop Sections 119 and 123 with in-seat service.
  • Neutral Ground
Four north-end loge boxes in the front of Sections 112 and 113 are scheduled to debut in 2026, steps from the field.
  • Student seating
The most energetic sections operate first-come through Tulane's WavePass. Arrive early because overflow is not guaranteed after capacity is reached.
  • Accessible seating
Elevators on the east side connect to terraces and clubs. Arrange the correct ticket before game day rather than relying on an exchange.

Concessions

Yulman is cashless and leans into New Orleans flavors alongside stadium standards. The exact specialty lineup changes annually, so use the current concessions map for locations.

  • Uptown Tenders
Chicken-focused offerings have included beignet hot-honey sliders and frozen coffee.
  • Beignets
The powdered-sugar classic appears at Uptown Tenders and selected express stands, offering a distinctly local stadium dessert.
  • Classic stands
Hot dogs, burgers, nachos, popcorn, candy, soft drinks and water anchor Sections 120, 128, 204, 209 and other concourse points.
  • Hullabaloo and Crescent City markets
Grab-and-go stands broaden snack and beverage access, including ice-cream novelties.
  • Bloody Mary portable
A dedicated Section 120 point appeared in the latest published lineup.
  • Alcohol
Beer and other alcohol are sold through the third quarter, subject to management discretion. Outside alcohol is prohibited.
  • Happy hour
Tulane has offered early-entry food and drink specials from the 90-minute gate opening until 30 minutes before kickoff; confirm the 2026 program.

Bag Policy

  • One clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12 inches wide, 12 inches tall and 6 inches deep is permitted.
  • A one-gallon resealable clear plastic storage bag is an approved alternative.
  • One small clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches may accompany the clear bag.
  • A diaper bag may enter when accompanied by an infant and remains subject to inspection.
  • A simple seat cushion without plastic or metal components is permitted; seatback chairs are prohibited.
  • Handheld still cameras are allowed, but video cameras, tripods and professional equipment are prohibited.
  • Outside food and drink, bottles, cans, coolers, footballs, umbrellas, banners, flags, artificial noisemakers and weapons are prohibited.
  • Gates open 90 minutes before kickoff. Bring rain apparel instead of an umbrella and have the mobile ticket ready before reaching campus screening.
