A Guide to South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium
South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium gives FIU football a compact, unmistakably Miami home. The 20,000-seat bowl pairs palm trees, Cuban food influences and close student seating with the name of hometown entertainer Pitbull, while South Dade Kia sponsors the field. Known as “The Cage,” the enclosed setting holds sound well, and nearby tailgates plus Panther Walk make the west-Miami campus experience easy to navigate.
Getting to South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium
The address is 11310 SW 17th Street, Miami, Florida 33199. Florida's Turnpike, Dolphin Expressway, SW 8th Street and Coral Way are the principal approaches. Use FIU's game-specific map rather than the university's generic address.
Driving & Parking
- Cuban Memorial LotThe large Tamiami Park area east of the stadium is the principal paid public tailgating choice. Recent game plans price general spaces at $20, with donor inventory managed separately.
- Triangle and Lot 7The west grass Triangle has recently offered $25 tailgating parking. Lot 7 has offered $30 parking without tailgating. Buy the correct product rather than assuming every paid lot permits a setup.
- Free choicesLot 5, Lot 4 and the PG1 and PG2 garages have been offered free for many games. The garages provide welcome shade but require a longer walk and a slower postgame exit.
- Accessible parkingDesignated inventory is available in Lot 7 west of the stadium and the south VIP area on a first-come basis with a valid placard or plate. Contact the ticket office in advance when accessible seating or additional assistance is needed.
- Tamiami Park entryEntrances include SW 112th Avenue at Coral Way and SW 117th Avenue at SW 21st Street. Officers may alter routes for major crowds.
- Matchup-specific timingLots commonly open five or six hours before kickoff, but FIU publishes an individual timeline for each home game. Check it before departure because a special event can relocate parking or tailgating.
Public Transit
- Panther StationMiami-Dade Metrobus serves the on-campus terminal near Parking Garage 6 on the north side of MMC. Routes associated with the FIU corridor include 8, 11, 24 and 71, but weekend frequency and termini must be checked for the game date.
- No Metrorail shortcutRail does not reach the stadium. A bus connection can take substantially longer than driving, especially at night.
- Allow the campus walkPanther Station is across campus from the football complex. Budget roughly 20 minutes to reach the stadium and more if stopping at the student tailgate or Pantherland.
- Save the return tripTake a screenshot of the stop, route number and last useful departure before entering. Postgame road controls and weekend headways can affect live estimates.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)
- Use the official zoneFIU directs rideshare pickup and drop-off to the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, 10910 SW 17th Street. This keeps app-based vehicles away from the stadium's controlled curb.
- Approach from the eastTell the driver to follow event signage near the arts center instead of trying to enter the south VIP or Lot 7 lanes.
- Walk the final segmentThe official location is east of the bowl and requires a short campus walk. Guests with mobility needs should arrange the accessible arrival plan with FIU rather than relying on an unauthorized curb stop.
- Request after reaching the zoneWalk to the performing arts center, confirm the displayed license plate and expect postgame surge pricing.
Pregame Festivities
FIU's pregame core lies along the Tamiami Hall promenade. Panther Walk usually occurs about two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff, moving the team past supporters, the band, cheerleaders and Dazzlers toward Gate 6. Pantherland, between Parkview garage and Panther Hall, supplies family games. Times change by game.
Tailgating
- Cuban Memorial LotThis Tamiami Park lot provides the broadest traditional tailgate setting. Keep activity within the paid footprint and lanes clear.
- Triangle grass lotA closer west-side paid option when offered, the Triangle permits tailgating but has less infrastructure and can become soft after heavy rain.
- Student tailgateThe Tamiami Hall promenade and Parkview area host FIU's student-focused party with music and activities. It is a pedestrian event space, not a student parking lot.
- Panther WalkBuild the tailgate schedule around the team's arrival. Move toward Tamiami Hall before the procession begins, then follow the energy toward Gate 6.
- Weather preparationUse shade, water and sunscreen, secure tents and follow FIU instructions immediately if lightning clears outdoor areas.
- Special-event resetThe Shula Bowl or another high-demand game may consolidate activities in Tamiami Park. Treat the opponent-specific map as controlling even if a prior game used a different lot.
Pregame Bars & Restaurants
- The SW 107th Avenue location is a convenient neighborhood sports-bar choice for wings, sandwiches and televisions before heading to campus.
- Islas CanariasA short drive southwest of FIU, this Miami institution is known for Cuban food and especially croquetas. It gives visiting fans a stronger local meal than a generic chain stop.
- Farther west on Coral Way, Finka blends Cuban, Korean and Peruvian influences with craft beer and cocktails.
- Calle Ocho CornerAlready inside the stadium concourse beneath Section 134, this FIU-branded area combines a bar, high-top tables, domino tables and a Miami photo backdrop. It is the best option for fans who prefer to enter early.
- Campus dining provides a practical nonalcoholic fallback for students and families, but weekend hours change with the academic calendar. Confirm what is open before depending on it.
Gameday Traditions
- Panther WalkPlayers and coaches pass through the residential-campus promenade accompanied by the FIU Marching Band, cheerleaders and Dazzlers before entering near Gate 6.
- RoaryFIU's Panther mascot works the student tailgate, family zone and stadium, reinforcing the big-cat identity behind “The Cage.”
- Marching Band entranceThe band carries the pregame procession into the bowl, then supplies the fight song and Latin-flavored Miami energy from the stands.
- Shula BowlThe rivalry with Florida Atlantic honors Don Shula and produces FIU's most intense annual home atmosphere when the game falls in Miami.
- 305 identityMusic, bilingual presentation, vice-color accents and local food make the production deliberately Miami rather than a generic stadium show.
- Student energyThe residence-hall tailgate pours directly toward the student gates, creating the day's loudest transition from party to kickoff.
