A Guide to Nationals Park

Nationals Park is located along the Anacostia River in the vibrant Navy Yard neighborhood, designed to blend Washington D.C.'s iconic architecture with panoramic views of the U.S. Capitol. It serves as a social and cultural hub for the city, featuring a deep connection to local military history, famous regional cuisine, and the beloved Presidential Race tradition.

Getting to the Ballpark

Washington, D.C. is notorious for traffic, so public transit is generally the preferred method for locals.

Public Transit

  • The Metro
The Navy Yard-Ballpark Station on the Green Line is just half a block from the stadium. Alternatively, fans can use the Capitol South Station (Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines), which is about a 15-20 minute walk but helps avoid the post game Green Line crush. There are lots of park and ride locations throughout the system if you're not staying close to the train.
  • DC Circulator Bus
The Union Station-to-Navy Yard route provides an alternative from that transit hub that drops fans off right at the ballpark.
  • The Potomac Riverboat (Water Taxi)
A unique scenic route. The water taxi runs from Alexandria (VA), The Wharf (DC), and National Harbor (MD) directly to the Diamond Teague Park pier, located adjacent to the stadium.

Biking

  • Nationals Park offers a free Bike Valet service located to the left of the entrance to Garage C, on First Street SE near N Street SE. There are also numerous Capital Bikeshare docks around the perimeter.

Driving & Parking

  • The Nationals manage 7 garages in the area around the stadium. Garages B and C are closest to the stadium on N St SE with the entrance to C on First St SE. Additional lots are on Cushing Place SE (Lot M), Half Street SE (Lot H), 3rd Street SE (Lots U and T) and 7th Street SE (Lot W). You can pre-purchase parking via the Nationals website or the MLB Ballpark app. The website also has a map showing exact parking lot locations. Street parking is very limited and resident restricted in many places.

Rideshare & Taxi

  • A taxi stand is located on the north side of M Street, SE between South Capitol St, SE and Half St, SE. Rideshare is not restricted around the stadium but it is suggested not to ask to be picked up or dropped off on South Capitol Street. This is a busy highway, and stopping there is dangerous. Suggested locations include N St. SE and New Jersey Ave. SE, L St. SE between First St SE and New Jersey Ave. SE, or M St. SE and Half St. SE

Pregame Festivities

The area surrounding the stadium, once industrial, is now one of DC's most vibrant entertainment districts.

Bars & Restaurants

  • An iconic outdoor shipping container bar directly outside the center field gate. It features live music and a massive fan atmosphere.
  • A high end craft brewery and restaurant located in a historic former shipyard building.
  • A two story Mexican restaurant and bar with a huge balcony
  • A New England-style oyster bar popular with fans looking for upscale seafood and cocktails.
  • A sprawling outdoor German-style beer garden perfect for large groups.
  • A brewery located right on the waterfront with excellent views and house made drafts.
  • A classic sports bar with self-pour beer taps and dozens of TVs.
  • Known for Jersey-style deck oven pizzas and a great rooftop.
  • A reimagined American diner with Art Deco decor, located directly across from the stadium entrance.
  • A brewery located right in the Navy yard offering indoor and outdoor seating and pizza and wings from Andy's Pizza

Neighborhood Attractions

  • The banks of the Anacostia have undergone a massive environmental restoration. Yards Park features a signature "waterwall" and boardwalk, while Diamond Teague Park serves as a gateway for environmental education.
  • A 20-mile multi-use path connecting the ballpark to the wider DC area. It offers excellent wildlife viewing (including bald eagles) and a front-row seat to the river's ecological comeback.
  • Features a seasonal ice rink and green space.
  • Located within the actual Washington Navy Yard (requires valid ID/security check for entry).
  • Located at the intersection of 4th and P Streets SW, this granite statue honors the men who sacrificed their lives so women and children could be saved. It is a quiet, contemplative spot designed by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney.

Monuments & Unique Features

Located in front of the Home Plate Gate you will find three bronze statues honoring baseball legends.
    • Walter Johnson (Washington Senators)
    • Frank Howard (Senators/Expansion Senators)

  • The Ring of Honor
Located behind home plate, this honors Hall of Famers and legends from the original Senators, the Homestead Grays of the Negro Leauges, and the Montreal Expos where the franchise moved from. Honorees include Joe Cronin , Rick Ferrell, Goose Goslin, Clark Griffith, Bucky Harris, Walter Johnson, Harmon Killebrew, Heinie Manush, Sam Rice, and Early Wynn of the Senators; Cool Papa Bell, Ray Brown, Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Cumberland Posey, and Jud Wilson of the Grays; Gary Carter and Andre Dawson of the Expos. All of these players are in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

  • Home Run Markers
A tribute to the white seats at the old RFK Stadium that marked Frank Howard's legendary blasts. At Nationals Park, notable homers are marked in two ways.
    • Red Seats
Look for the solitary red seats amidst the sea of navy blue. Examples include Section 100, Row A, Seat 14 (Ryan Zimmerman's walk-off in the park's 2008 inaugural game) and Sections 234/236 (commemorating Bryce Harper's massive upper-deck shots).
    • Commemorative Plaques
Permanent plaques are mounted where balls landed outside the seating bowl, such as the back wall of the visitor's bullpen (Jayson Werth's 2012 NLDS walk-off) and the Budweiser Brew House railing (Michael Morse's 465-ft blast).
  • The GEICO Presidents Race
A fan favorite tradition during the middle of the 4th inning where Abe, George, Tom and Teddy (and sometimes others) race around the warning track.
  • Cherry Blossoms
Inside the stadium, you will find 14 Kwanzan Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees, eight of which are located in the Center Field Plaza. Unlike the Yoshino trees at the Tidal Basin, these bloom a deep pink and typically peak a few weeks later, often perfectly timing with the first few home stands of the season.
  • No Kings Collective Mural
Located next to the escalators leading up to the Budweiser Terrace, this massive, vibrant mural was created by local DC artists Peter Chang and Brandon Hill. It features Nats-centric iconography, the Curly W, and DMV landmarks.
  • Navy Yard Memorial Plaque
Located in the Center Field Plaza, this plaque honors the 12 victims of the September 16, 2013, shooting at the nearby Navy Yard. It serves as a permanent site for reflection and a symbol of the bond between the team and the military community.
  • Submarine Dive Horn
When a National hits a home run, you'll hear a deep, mechanical submarine klaxon. This dive horn is a direct nod to the Washington Navy Yard and the naval history of the Anacostia River.
